Escondido is a city located in northern San Diego County, California just north of San Diego, California, USA. The name means "hidden" in Spanish-- it occupies a shallow valley ringed by rocky hills. Founded in 1888, it is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County.

Downtown Escondido (centered on Grand Avenue) has experienced a renaissance. Numerous fine restaurants, cafes, and galleries have opened over the past few years. In addition to the many art galleries on Grand, a branch of the Mingei Museum has recently opened there. This museum displays handcrafts from around the world and is a treat to visit. Just one block off Grand Ave. is Grape Day Park with the civic center and the California Center for the Arts, Escondido that features two theaters, a visual arts museum, an educational complex, and a conference center. The Escondido Children's Museum is located in Studio One at the Center for the Arts, and the Escondido History Center is located right in Grape Day Park. The History Center features the city's original Santa Fe Depot, first library, Victorian house, barn, and blacksmith shop.

Well if I make it up there

Well if I make it up there then I don't care where you are eating lunch because I know where I am going. George Burgers which is right across the street. I LOVE their burgers. They have a menu that stretches all the way across the width of the inside from hot dogs to burgers to Gyros to Greek Salads to Pastrami to Fish to everything. You could eat there for a month and never eat the same thing twice. I've never eaten anything there though other than the Burgers. $6 for a Burger, Fries and a drink and you will walk out stuffed if you are able to eat it all. Just love it!

Okay... in honor of the

Okay... in honor of the group shoot being a 5 minute drive from home, I'll be there with a special treat! Escondido is the home of arguably the world's best donuts (Peterson's at the corner of 9th and Escondido Blvd). I'll make a stop on the way and pick up a dozen for morning treats (or at least group shoot props).

I think you'll find some interstings subjects in this area - architecural, historical, your random street people in the park, some really cool public art in the park and even more on the old-school main street a couple of blocks away.  So regardless of the choice being a last minute subsittution... it's a good one.

Oh yeah... George's is terrific. Between Peterson's donuts to start and George's for lunch we may need someone to bring Lipitor, too.

See you there!

I was blown away by all the amazing shots from this month's groupshoot.  Congrats to eveyone that posted images.

Wish I could've been there, but... kinda feel I was. Thanks all:~)

By the way, great suggestion

By the way, great suggestion on George's. So yummy! Their sauces on the burgers is perfect.

I made a big effort to simplify my shots even more for this shoot. I did have some of my lenses with me, but made every effort to try and shoot mostly with my 135mm at f2.

 I knew I didn't stop at

I knew I didn't stop at Calumet (to pick up a softbox or two) on the way home from the GS for a reason.  http://calumetphotographic.com/promotions/janLightSale.html  Just so happens they are having a lighting sale until the end of the month.  Buy a softbox get a second 50% off sounds good to me.

If you don't have a strobe or two and thinking of one, the Genesis lights kick butt, but when they go on sale the disappear fast. I love my 400's.
