Right Place Right time

Comicon has been great this year. I have had several shots that I am very proud of including the one posted here of the airbush. Today though tops everything in terms of opportunity.
While walking by one of the exhibits they were setting up for Stan Lee to sign autographs of a new Manga book he and a co author released. Stan Lee of course is perhaps the biggest name in Comics today and one of the pillars Marvel Comics is built.
I was stading next to the exhibitor's film crew and was able to set up next to them for my own shots (about 15' from the signing area). After showing a few sample shots to one member of the film crew, he and his team started ensuring that I had unobstructed views of the signing, asked for a card and passed my info to their marketing people.
Potentiall its a geat opportunity.

Nice shots (and a good opportunity) Clark. I've only seen Stan Lee on The Simpsons, but that really does look like him.

Well I just received the contact information requesting the link to the gallery. Here's to keeping your fingers crossed. I am glad I did a second review of the images to remove a yellow cast caused by the lighting.

You probably heard about the Canadian pilot that lawn-darted his CF-18 on Thursday... He ejected safely and is recovering in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Well, it turns out I took a photo of the same pilot at the Miramar Air Show back in 2007 and that picture is now being used at two different news outlets, one in Canada and the other in Great Britain. I'm not getting anything in return for it but it's kinda neat knowing my picture is out there.
Speaking of which - there
Speaking of which - there are some spectacular images of him ejecting as he is going down. Someone was sure in he right place at the right time...
BTW the correct designation for that aircraft is CF-188. It is a "modified" version of the american F-18 so it has its own designation.

Everything I'm seeing in
Everything I'm seeing in relation to this particular incident is calling it a CF-18, including the official Demo team site.

I don't know when it became "popular" but I had never seen it written that way before. In the past was always either refered to as either "F-18" or "CF-188". I guess its a bit of PR to assure people that we actually DO have a reputable airplane rather than some unique knockoff.
"A versatile, world-class fighter aircraft, the supersonic CF-188 Hornet (or CF-18 as it is popularly known)..."

It's kinda the same way
It's kinda the same way here... The USAF's F-16 Fighting Falcon is popularly called the "Viper" for reasons I can't fathom and the Navy's F/A-18E & F models are referred to as "Rhinos," although I think that's due more to their size rather than anything else. The F-4 Phantom IIs were often referred to as Rhinos also.
I've had another request
I've had another request from the Sunday Mirror in Great Britain to use the photograph and the CBC is now using it in a video and on-line...

Such a small world John. I
Such a small world John.
I just got back from Canada and it turns out this pilot was married to a good friend of mine from school. My mom and her mom are good friends so of course she thought it was a pretty interesting connection between the pictures of her son-in-law that were showing up in the news and someone that I know in San Diego...
It was also interesting to hear a little more of the story that did not make the news.
