Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Bob, Do you have anything

Bob,

Do you have anything where you were going for the miniature look...like shooting a construction site with heavy equipment but the vehicles/items look like toys? Thats kind of what i am interested in with the tilt shift lenses.  Thanks.

 Dwayne,I never shot

Dwayne,

I never shot anything like that. I did use it one day in Little Italy but I have so many shots taken in Little Italy it may take me a while to find them. But I think that's about the only time I used the lens.

I use the Canon TS-E 24mm at

I use the Canon TS-E 24mm at work (Nikon man, personally). Sometime I have to shoot electronic gear in tight places. I can't always get the perspective that I need, so I ordered the tilt/shift lens and that did the trick.

Dwayne, that's a neat idea. I have to take the Canon home with me and give it a shot. I assume that the T/S lens will give that kind of distorted look. We'll see.

dave :)
