PAD February 2010 - Read Me

PAD (Picture-A-Day).
Start: http://www.sandiegodslr.com/?q=forum/43
For each day we will have a new Thread, and you can reply to the thread with your images Linked and shown in the reply. Once we get going it will become more clear to everyone.
You can see what we did last year here: http://www.sandiegodslr.com/?q=forum/40
Good luck.
Also in this thread you could declare your theme for the month. You still have about 20 days to decide

I didn't participate last year (too busy working). But now that I'm retired, I really don't have any excuses.
Only hiccup will be that Cathy and I already have plans to be out of town during parts of February. But I plan to be taking pictures while we are gone and I'll have my laptop so, hopefully, I'll still be able to get them posted.
Once the daily PAD topics get rolling, is it OK to post a picture to a previous day's topic as long as the photo was actually TAKEN on that day? We might have situations where I take photos over a day or three but can't get them posted due to no internet access.
The good news is our travels will take us to the central coast (from Morro Bay to Monterey) and (later) to the Palm Desert area. Lots of stuff to take pictures of!
As for theme... Is it OK to not really have a theme? The whole point is for us to get out and take photos. Is it OK for those photos to be of anything we want? Can my theme be "Miscellaneous"?

It's ALL up to you. The rule (if any) is simple: Picture-A-Day

Too many ideas even with a limitation of something that can travel. I will be travelling the 3rd week in feb to Ohio so I need a theme that can not only encompass a plane ride but also work for winter......too bad I don't a luke figure or a han figurine for "Recreational Activities on Hoth".
I think at some point I will want to photgraph an old slide rule (grandfathers) and its leather case. It has some interesting history behind it...that might be an idea....I have some old historical items and antiques which could make for an interesting subject as well as perhaps the story behind the subject.
My parents also collect antiques so subject matter would be all around me (except on the plane). This sounds like it could be fun...I will have to see what I have at home to support it.
Of course I am also toying with the idea of lawn gnomes....yes my wife collects them and we have such a variety of them. What got her started on collecting them was a trip to Tahitti. While vacationing a boat of other tourists from gernamy I think came up with a lawn gnome and wanted a picture of the gnome on the bananna boat excursion we were on in Cooks Bay, Moorea. While I would not be travelling to such exotic places, travel of a lawn gnome might equally be a good theme.

This sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I didn't do this last year because I wasn't a part of this group but I deffinitely will be participating this year. I am going to try my hardest to stick to one theme so I am going to stick to one lens the lensbaby.

I think I will challenge myself to use my 35m macro for this pad. I find it a frustating lens to use successfully.
